N or M - my first book of Agatha Christie many years ago. This book started all - all my obsession  although it is not typical Agatha - you can say it is spy novel. Main characters are Tommy and Tuppence. /

N či M - prvá kniha, ktorú som pred mnohými rokmi čítala od Agathy Christie. Odštartovala moju postupnú posadnutosť , hoci to ani nie je typická Agatha - možno povedať, že je to špionážny román. Hlavné postavy - Tommy a Pentlička.

Why I love Agatha Christie so? She writes with very simple speech but she can so sophisticately accelerate action tha we read her books in one breath and at the end we only want another case. It is little bit like drag . She describes milieu and characters only in breath however suddenly with any magic they are complete in our imagination. She has unbelievable fantasy and bottomless storage of perfect plots. Although she used some of them more times, you would not find it out at first if ever. Hercule Poirot, Hastings, inspector Japp. Miss Marple, Ariadne Oliver, Tommy and Tuppence and others - they are peculiar, unique and as I frequently meat them they really gow on to me.

Útulné domčeky a honosné šľachtické sídla malebných dedín a mestečiek prekrásneho južného Anglicka, parníky, vlaky, paluby lietadiel, areál vykopávok na Blízkom Východe, pochmúrne sídlo s výhľadom na Dartmoore, ostrovy v mori, to všetko sú scény zločinu a môžeme tam stretnúť Hercule Poirota a slečnu Marplovú.
Prečo tak milujem Agathu Christie? Píše veľmi jednoduchým jazykom, ale dokáže ním tak rafinovane zrýchľovať dej, že jej knihy sa čítajú jedným dychom a na konci mám okamžite chuť na nový prípad. Je to trochu ako droga . Prostredie aj postavy opisuje vždy iba v náznakoch, a predsa sa akýmsi zázrakom dokreslia do úplnosti v našej fantázii. Má neuveriteľnú fantáziu a nevyčerpateľnú zásobáreň dokonalých zápletiek. Aj keď niektoré použila viackrát, sotva si to všimnete na prvýkrát, ak vôbec. Hercule Poirot, Hastings, inšpektor Japp, slečna Marplová, Ariadne Oliverová, Tommy a Pentlička a ostatní sú svojrázni, jedineční a ako sa tak s nimi opakovane stretávam, riadne mi prirástli k srdcu.

After long long time of buying diverse editions of the same title (e.g. I want to have complete collection of "KK" books) these two are really new for me - I didn' read them, I only saw the film "Hollow" with David Suchet and "Sparkling Cyanide" from 1983 with Anthony Andrews and Deborah Raffin in main roles. So I enjoy my additions very much. /
Po dlhom dlhom čase kupovania rôznych vydaní rovnakých titulov (napr. chcem mať kompletnú zbierku kníh z "KK") sú tieto dve pre mňa naozaj nové - nečítala som ich, iba som videla film "Dolina" s Davidom Suchetom a "Cyankáli v šampanskom" z r. 1983 s Anthony Adrewsom a Deborah Raffin v hlavných úlohách. Takže mám z nových prírastkov veľkú radosť.

Black Coffee / Čierna káva

Black Coffee is a play by Agatha Christie which was produced initially in 1930, premiered on December 8, 1930. The first piece that Christie wrote for the stage, it launched a successful second career for her as a playwright. Twenty-two years after Christie's death, Black Coffee was re-published in the United Kingdom and the United States in the form of a novel. The novelisation was undertaken by the Australian-born writer and classical music critic Charles Osborne, with the endorsement of the Christie estate. /
Čierna káva je hra od Agathy Christie, ktorá bola pôvodne produkovaná v r. 1930, premiéru mala 8. decembra 1930. Táto prvá divadelná hra, ktorú Christie napísala, naštartovala jej druhú úspešnú kariéru autorky hier. Dvadsaťdva rokov po smrti autorky bola Čierna káva znovu vydaná vo forme románu. O prepis do románovej formy sa - so súhlasom správcov pozostalosti - postaral Charles Osborne, v Austrálii narodený spisovateľ a kritik vážnej hudby.
Plot / Zápletka
Hercule Poirot and his friend Arthur Hastings are summoned to visit a famous physicist, Sir Claud Amory, but they discover on their arrival that he has been murdered. The plot revolves around a stolen formula, with Poirot deducing which of Sir Claud's house guests/family members is the killer./
Hercule Poirot a jeho priateľ Arthur Hastings dostanú pozvanie na návštevu od známeho prírodovedca, Sira Clauda Amoryho, po príchode však zistia, že bol zavraždený. Zápletka sa točí okolo strateného vzorca, Poirot vydedukuje, že vrahom musí byť niekto z hostí domu Sira Clauda, alebo niekto z jeho rodiny.

On 15. Jul 2012 in Chichester Festival Theatre, Sussex, was an exclusive performance of Black Coffee - staged reading featured a remarkable cast including none other than David Suchet as Hercule Poirot! After the denouement, theatre goers were asked if they would like to stay on for a fascinating session with David Suchet and Joe Harmston, the director. /
15. júla 2012 sa v Chichester Festival Theatre, v Sussexe konalo exkluzívne predstavenie Čiernej kávy - čítanie hry na scéne, s pozoruhodným obsadením vrátane nikoho iného ako Davida Sucheta v úlohe Poirota! Po rozuzlení divákov pozvali na fascinujúcu schôdzku s Davidom Suchetom a Joeom Harmstonom, riaditeľom divadla.

The Mousetrap / Pasca na myši

Mousetrap is a murder mystery play by Agatha Christie. The Mousetrap opened in the West End of London in 1952, and has been running continuously since then. It has the longest initial run of any play in history, with over 24,500 performances so far. It is the longest running show (of any type) of the modern era. The play is also known for its twist ending, which at the end of every performance the audience is asked not to reveal to those, who didn't see the play. /
Pasca na myši je divadelná hra od Agathy Christie, ktorá sa začala hrať v londýnskom West End v r. 1952 a odvtedy sa nepretržite hrá dodnes. So svojimi vyše 24 500 predstaveniami je to najdlhšie hraná hra (všetkých typov) v histórii  modernej éry. Hra je známa aj svojím zakončením - na konci každého predstavenia sú diváci vyzvaní, aby neprezrádzali tým, čo hru nevideli, vraha.
Plot / Zápletka
A woman has been murdered in London. A young couple, Mollie and Giles Ralston, have started a guest house in the converted Monkswell Manor. Their first four guests arrive: Christopher Wren, Mrs. Boyle, Major Metcalf and Miss Casewell. Mrs. Boyle complains about everything, and Giles offers to cancel her stay, but she refuses the offer. They become snowed in together and read in the newspaper of the murder. An additional traveller, Mr. Paravicini, arrives stranded after he ran his car into a snowdrift, but he makes his hosts uneasy.
Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives on skis to inform the group that he believes a murderer is at large and on his way to the hotel, following the death of Mrs Maureen Lyon in London. When Mrs Boyle is killed, they realise that the murderer is already there..../
V Londýne zavraždia ženu. Mladá dvojica, Molie a Giles Ralstonovci práve otvárajú svoj penzión Monkswell Manor. Prichádzajú prví hostia: Christopher Wren, pani  Boyleová, major Metcalf a slečna Casewellová. Pani Boyleová sa na všetko sťažuje, Giles jej navrhne zrušenie objednávky, ona ale neprijíma návrh. Obyvatelia penziónu sa ocitajú zavalení snehom, odrezaní od okolitého sveta, čítajú v novinách o vražde. Ďalší nečakaný cestovateľ, pán Paravicini, prichádza. Tvrdí, že zapadol s autom v záveji. Je to nepríjemný hosť.
Na lyžiach sa do penziónu dostáva detektív seržant Trotter, aby informoval skupinku, že do hotela sa po vražde pani Maureen Lyonovej v Londýne chystá prísť vrah. Keď zabijú pani Boyleovú, všetkým je jasné, že vrah už tu je...

Spider's Web was written at the request of its star, Margaret Lockwood, whose main body of work was in films and who had never appeared in a West End production aside from Peter Pan. In 1953, Lockwood asked her agent, Herbert de Leon, to speak with Peter Saunders, who was the main producer of Christie's work on the stage after the successes of The Hollow and The Mousetrap, and see if Christie would be interested in writing a play for her. /
Pavučina bola napísaná na požiadavku jej budúcej hviezdy, Margareth Lockwood, ktorá dovtedy hrala hlavne vo filmoch a nikdy, okrem v Petrovi Panovi,  nevystupovala v divadelných hrách vo West End. V r. 1953 Lockwood poprosila svojho agenta Herberta de Leona, aby sa porozprával s Peterom Saundersom, ktorý po úspechu Doliny a Pasce na myši bol hlavným producentom hier Agathy Christie, a zistil, či by Christie nemala záujem napísať pre ňu hru. 
Plot / Zápletka
The action of the play passes in the drawing room of Copplestone Court, the Hailsham-Brown's home in Kent. Clarissa Hailsham-Brown is the second wife of a Foreign Office diplomat, Henry, and stepmother to his teenage daughter, Pippa. There are three guests staying with them: Sir Rowland Delahaye, a local Justice of the Peace in his fifties, Hugo Birch, an irascible man in his sixties and a young man called Jeremy Warrender. Three guests just leave to eat at the nearby golf club, when Pippa arrives from school, hungry as always. Sir Rowland congratulates Clarissa on her relationship with and handling of Pippa who had a bad time with her real mother, Miranda and her drug-supplying lover, Oliver Costello.
After three gentlemen went to club, Clarissa is unexpected visited by Oliver Costello, threaten he will take Pippa back to her mother. Later after his leaving Clarissa is looking for something in the book shelf and literally stumbles upon Costello’s corpse. Pippa runs into drawing room and admits she killed him. Clarissa in panic calls her guests in club to return and help her to get rid of the corpse. They barely could hide it for a while in a secret cache by book shelf when local police men come, just informed about corpse in Court by anonymous telephone call.... /
Hra sa odohráva v obývačke sídla Copplestone Court, v dome Hailsham-Brownových v Kente. Clarissa Hailsham-Brownová je druhou manželkou diplomata zahraničných služieb, Henryho a nevlastnou matkou jeho dcéry, teenagerky Pippy.  Práve sú u nej traja návštevníci: Sir Rowland Delahaye, pätdesiatnik , miestny zmierovací sudca, Hugo Birch, prchký a popudlivý šesťdesiatnik a mladý muž Jeremy Warrender. Traja hostia sa práve chystajú na večeru do blízkeho golf klubu, keď sa zo školy vráti Pippa, hladná, ako vždy. Sir Rowland gratuluje Clarisse, ako skvelo sa stará o Pippu, ktorá prežila ťažké časy so svojou matkou Mirandou a matkiným milencom Oliverom Costellom. Costello matku zásobuje drogami.
Po odchode pánov do klubu Clarissu nečakane navštívi Oliver Costello a vyhráža sa, že odvedie Pippu späť k matke. Neskôr, po jeho dochode, Clarissa hľadá niečo na polici v obývačke a doslova zakopne o mŕtvolu Costella. Pippa pribehne do obývačky a zúfalá sa priznáva k činu. Clarissa v panike telefonuje do golfového klubu svojim hosťom, aby prišli a pomohli jej zbaviť sa tela. Sotva však stihnú telo prechodne ukryť v tajnej skrýši vedľa knižnice, prichádza miestna polícia, ktorú práve o mŕtvole v sídle informoval anonymný telefonát....

Witness for the Prosecution is a play adapted by Agatha Christie based upon her short story titled "The Witness for the Prosecution". The play opened in London on 28. October 1953 at the Winter Garden Theatre (although the first performance had actually been in Nottingham on 28. September). It was produced by Peter Saunders. /
Svedkyňa obžaloby je hra, ktorú Agatha Christie adaptovala podľa svojej poviedky “Svedkyňa obžaloby”. Premiéra hry bola 28. októbra 1953 vo Winter Garden Theatre (hoci prvý raz sa vlastne hrala v Nottinghame 28. septembra). Producentom bol Peter Saunders.
Plot / Zápletka
Leonard Vole accused of murdering his older benefactress shortly after her will is changed in his favor. Famous Barrister Sir Wilfred Robarts agrees to take the case.
The evidence seems strong against Vole, but his German wife Romain, a clever, mysterious woman, provides an alibi by the police. Sir Wilfred has his doubts, which prove prophetic when the wife turns up as a witness for the prosecution, all but shattering his case.
The canny barrister finds a way to save his client initially, but there are quite a few more satisfying plot twists and great surprises before we reach the end of the tale...
The play was filmed in 1957 under direction of Billy Wilder with Marlene Dietrich and Tyrone Power in main roles. But although this movie is general appreciated I'm not sure I like it... /
Leonard Vole je obžalovaný z vraždy svojej staršej dobrodinky krátko po tom, ako zmenila závet v jeho prospech. Známy obhájca Sir Wilfred Robarts súhlasí s prevzatím prípadu.
Dôkazy proti Voleovi sú značne presvedčivé, ale jeho nemecká žena Romain, múdra a záhadná žena, dokáže na polícii jeho alibi. Sir Wilfred má svoje pochybnosti, a tie sa prorocky splnia, keď manželka na súde obráti, alibi poprie a stáva sa svedkyňou obžaloby.
Hra bola sfilmovaná v r. 1957 v réžii Billyho Wildera, v hlavných úlohách Marlene Dietrich a Tyrone Power. Ale hoci je film všeobecne uznávaný, nie som si istá, či sa mi páči...

I want to buy this book in Oxford on my journey in 2010 but I didn't find it. At least I bought it  at home. In this video you can here voice of Agatha Christie from CD which is part of the book. I have already read it in Slovak, but this CDs with Agatha's voice, as she dictate her biography to dictaphone - who could resist? And photos, that I didn't see before! /
Chcela som kúpiť túto knihu na mojej ceste v r. 2010 v Oxforde, ale nezohnala som ju. Nakoniec som ju kúpila doma. V tomto videu počúvate jej hlas z CDčka, ktoré je súčasťou knihy. Už som ju čítala v Slovenčine, ale kto by odolal CDčkam s jej hlasom, ako diktuje do diktafónu svoj životopis? A fotkám, ktoré som predtým nevidela!

Agatha Christie s disappearance for  ten days in 1926 was never explained, Agatha herself never spoke apout it. Probably that s why there are so many speculations about  what  really happen. Episode of Doctor Who S04E07 „The Unicorn and The Wasp“ comes with actually ingenious theory J. /

Zmiznutie Agathy Christie na desať dní v r. 1926 sa nikdy nevysvetlilo, samotná Agatha o tom nikdy nehovorila. Možno preto existuje tak veľa špekulácií o tom, čo sa naozaj stalo. Epizóda seriálu Doctor Who (Pán času) S04E07 „Jednorožec a osa“ prináša skutočne dômyselnú teóriu J.

I was inspirated by one mentioned collection of illustrations and portraits of book hero, so a created my own overview of my favorite illustrators. As I know the books of Agatha are not often illustraded, but they have very nice covers. /
Inšpirovala ma jedna spomenutá zbierka ilustrácií a portrétov knižného hrdinu, tak som si vytvorila vlastný prehľad mojich obľúbených ilustrácií. Pokiaľ viem, knihy Agathy nebývajú často ilustrované, ale mávajú krásne obálky.
