I was fascinated how masterful it was located in nowadays. Only superlatives - masterful screen, scenery, direction, camera, actors, wonderful and perfect music. And it is also very witty, especially season 2 ... I can only hope Czech TV will broadcast season 2 in fall 2012. /
Bola som fascinovaná, ako majstrovsky preniesli dej do súčasnosti. Iba superlatívy - majstrovský scenár, výprava, réžia, kamera, herci, krásna a perfektná hudba. A je to tiež veľmi vtipné, hlavne druhá séria ... Môžem len dúfať, že ČT bude vysielať aj druhú sériu niekedy na jeseň r. 2012.

Plot as regards person of murderer and murder’s modus operandi is faithful to the book, basic difference is in victims, motive and it’s background – creators of series Sherlock launch Moriarty through it. Motive in the book is romantic – revenge for death of beloved persons. /
Zápletka, čo sa týka osoby vraha a spôsobu vraždy je verná knižnej predlohe, zásadný rozdiel je v obetiach, v motíve a v jeho pozadí – tvorcovia seriálu Sherlock tak uvádzajú na scénu Moriartyho. V knihe je motív romantický – pomsta za smrť milovaných osôb.

Added/Pridané 5.11.2012: Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat both write (among various other screen-writers, Moffat as lead-writer and executive producer) for some years screenplays of British science-fiction cult series Doctor Who produced by BBC (series was first aired on 23.11.1963). I have possibilty to watch (an AXN) series 5, 6 and start of 7 with Matt Smith as eleventh (!) Doctor Who and Karen Gillan as Amelia Pond - and it is actually GREAT!!! /
Mark Gatiss a Steven Moffat obaja už pár rokov píšu (popri rôznych iných autoroch, Moffat ako vedúci scenárista a výkonný producent) scenáre britského kultového sci-fi seriálu Doctor Who (na AXN je názov seriálu Pán času - podľa označenia Doktora Who - Time Lord), ktorý produkuje BBC (seriál bol prvýkrát vysielaný 23.11.1963). Mám možnosť sledovať (na AXN) sériu 5., 6. a začiatok 7. s Mattom Smithom ako jedenástym (!) Doktorom Who a Karen Gillan ako Ameliou Pond - a je to skutočne SKVELÉ!!!

Interest / Zaujímavosť:
The Blind Banker - Amanda, secretary of Van Coon (who got from him present - stolen 9 million pound worth jade pin) was played by Olivia Poulet - long-time spouce of Benedict Cumberbatch (till 2011). /Before filming these episodes BBC made 60-minutes Pilot (Study in Pink) which was never aired. Creators desided to make it longer (90 minutes) and even better. Pilot is very good (much more better as most of actual crime series we can watch) but I'm happy about creator's decision. Watch the first and the last part of this Pilot to compare - there is no Mycroft, no remark of Moriarty... even image of John and Sherlock is quite different... And some actors are different (e.g. Sally Donovan...) /
Pred nakrútením týchto epizód BBC vyrobilo 60-minútový pilotný diel (Štúdia v ružovom), ktorý nikdy neodvysielali. Tvorcovia sa rozhodli vytvoriť ešte lepšie a dlhšie (90 minútové) epizódy. Pilot je veľmi dobrý (oveľa lepší, ako väščia súčasných krimi seriálov, ktoré môžeme vidieť), ale som rada, že sa tak rozhodli. Pozrite si prvú a poslednú časť pilotného dielu pre porovnanie - nie je tam Mycroft, žiadna zmienka o Moriartym... dokonca image Johna a Sherlocka je dosť odlišný... A niektorí herci sú iní (napr. Sally Donovan...)

Plot in the book and in episode is the same, different is profession of Irene Adler, that in the book is more" innocent" – although she is „the woman of fatal fame“, she is substantially actress and singer, Irene in series is dominatrix, subject matter in the book is one photograph made in photographic studio, in series it is flash disk with much more explosive content. Fame of Bohemian kingdom is in threat in the book , in series that of United Kingdom. (Belgravia is nobby part of London, Buckingham palace is there too.) /
Zápletka v knihe a v epizóde je zhodná, až na profesiu Ireny Adler, tá v knihe je „nevinnejšia“, je to síce „žena neblahej povesti“, ale v podstate je to herečka a speváčka, Irene v seriáli je už rovno domina, v doličnom predmete – v knihe jedna kompromitujúca salónna fotografia, v seriálu fleška s oveľa výbušnejším materiálom. A v knihe je v ohrození povesť českého kráľovstva, kým v seriáli britského. (Belgravia je nóbl časť Londýna, kde je aj Buckinghamský palác).

In series there is a mysterious military base with strange activities, clone and modification of animals inclusive. And Young Henry Knight is obsessed by the vision of giant mutated hound which twenty years ago killed his father... /
V knihe je nebezpečný hrozivý pes skutočný a viac svedkov ho za tmy videlo v Dartmoore. Hlavne mladý sir Henry, potomok Baskervillov, je v ohrození. V sérii ide o záhadnú vojenskú základňu s podivnými aktivitami, vrátane klonovania a mutácie zvierat. A mladého Henryho Knighta prenasledujú vidiny obrovského zmutovaného psa, ktorý pred rokmi zabil jeho otca...

In book it is actually the fall of Moriarty and Holmes into clough of Reichenbach Fall in Switzerland. In series tries Moriarty to destroy Sherlock not only physicaly, he tries to destroy his fame showing Sherlock in public as a fake. In the book, by contrast to series, Watson is not witness to the fall... /
V knihe ide o naozajstný pád Moriartyho a Holmesa do priepasti Reichenbachského vodopádu vo Švajčiarsku, v seriáli sa Moriarty snaží zničiť Sherlocka nielen fyzicky, ale zničiť aj jeho povesť tým, že z neho urobí v očiach verejnosti podvodníka. V knihe, na rozdiel od seriálu, nie je Watson očitým svedkom pádu...

Recenzia, ktorý vyšla 4.-5.2.2012 v Lidových novinách (Neskrátenú verziu si prečítaj na blogu autorky TU).
Vcelku s recenziou môžem súhlasiť, až na dosť veľké chyby, na ktoré ma upozornila moja neter - Sherlock Holmes rozhodne nie je misogýn (tí ,ako vieme, nenávidia ženy), on sa o ne jednoducho nezaujíma, a to je veľký rozdiel! A bomba v závere Great Game, resp. na začiatku Scandal in Belgravia nebola časovaná, na Moriartyho pokyn ju mohli jeho komplici kedykoľvek odpáliť.

Estimating of Steven Moffat, that the series will be screened "hopefully before the years out", was obviously too optimistic. Latest information (from April 2012) - Start of filming - early 2013 
- I cannot wait!
May 2012 - Start of filming - January 2013. May be Watson will be living apart from Holmes and may be Watson will get married...
June 2012 - Latest info from web - first episode of 3. series would be after short story "The Adventure of the Empty House" (Alike as return of Sherlock Holmes by Conan Doyle) . Gatiss said Watson's reaction to the return of his friend Holmes in season three would differ from that in the original story. "I always found it a little unlikely that Dr Watson's only reaction was to faint for instance – as opposed to possibly a stream of terrible swear words," he said.
So who expects embracements by the first meet of JW with SH will probably be disappointed - it would be allegedly more in style "Punch me...." /
Odhad Stevena Moffata, že séria bude nakrútená "snáď už do konca roka", bol zrejme príliš optimistický. Najnovšia informácia (z apríla 2012) - Štart filmovania - začiatok r. 2013 - neviem sa dočkať!.
Máj 2012 - Začiatok filmovania - január 2013. Možno sa Watson odsťahuje a bude bývať inde a možno sa ožení...
Jún 2012 - Najnovšie info z webu - prvá epizóda 3. série bude podľa poviedky "Dobrodružstvo prázdneho domu" (Rovnako, ako návrat Sherlocka Holmesa podľa Conana Doyla). Gatiss povedal, že reakcia Watsona na návrat priateľa Holmesa v tretej sérii bude odlišná od tej v originálnej poviedke. "Vždy sa mi zdalo trochu nepravdepodobné, že jedinou reakciou Watsona bolo, že omdlel - ako protiklad k možnému prúdu strašných nadávok."
Takže kto očakáva objatia pri prvom stretnutí JW s SH, bude asi sklamaný - bude to vraj viac v štýle "Vraz mi..."

24.8.2012 was a huge success for Sherlock at at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival - they won Terrestrial Program of the Year. In Masterclass panel they uveiled the first hints of possible plotlines for Series Three. In discusion to ending of Reichenbach Fall resolving, on the (surviving) theories on web, Mark Gatiss said how "incredibly byzantine, funny and elaborate" many of them are, but he made an interesting point that since the episode is possibly only watched the once by many in the audience, the resolution couldn't hinge on an element that could only be seen by pausing and enlarging a small section of the screen! Sue Verue confirmed again start of filming in January 2013 and delivering to BBC in August 2013 - but it doesn't mean date of broadcast. Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat and Sue Vertue then presented the three words that describe each episode of the upcoming third series of Sherlock and they are: Rat, Wedding and Bow. (Fans on web only hope that "Bow" isn't related in any way with the short story "His Last Bow")... /
24.8.2012 bol veľkým úspechom pre Sherlocka na Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival - vyhrali Cenu Terestriálny program roka. V panelovej diskusii poodhalili prvé náznaky možných zápletiek tretej série. V diskusii k riešeniu konca Reichenbachského vodopádu, na teórie (prežitia) na webe, Mark Gatiss povedal, že sú všetky neuveriteľne byzantské, zábavné a prepracované, ale vyslovil zaujímavý bod, že ak divák vidí epizódu raz (čo asi väčšina), riešenie nemôže visieť na nejakom prvku, ktorý vidíme, iba ak stopneme film a priblížime detail! Sue Vertue znovu potvrdila štart filmovania na január 2012 a termín odovzdania diela BBC v auguste 2013 - ten ale neznamená dátum vysielania. Mark Gatiss, Steven Moffat a Sue Vertue potom prezentovali tri slová, ktoré popisujú každú epizódu prichádzajúcej tretej série, a sú to: Potkan, Svatba a Úklon/poklona, sláčik...- bez kontextu zatiaľ neviem preložiť (Fanúšikovaia na webe ale dúfajú, že "Bow" (v zmysle "úklon") nesúvisí nijako s poviedkou "Jeho posledné vystúpenie")...

Undershaw, former house of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is located close to the A333 road in the village of Hindhead in Surrey, near the larger town of Haslemere and is about 40 miles (64 km) south of London.
Undershaw was converted into a hotel not long after Doyle sold it. During 2004, the hotel closed and the property was purchased by Fosseway Limited - it has remained unoccupied since that sale. On 18 August 2010 the Los Angeles Times reported that plans are underway to redevelop the home into a multi-unit apartment building. The plan is opposed by preservationists, who want to see the house preserved as a single structure (whatever form it is subsequently put to - such as a home or museum).
On May 30, 2012, the High Court overturned the redevelopment of Undershaw due to legal flaws. The council's decisions to grant planning permission and listed building consent must be quashed.
Mark Gatiss has been patron of Undershaw since December 2010 and his support means great deal to the Save Undershaw campaign:/

30. mája 2012 Najvyšší súd zamietol žiadosť o povolenie plánovanej prestavby pamiatkovo chránenej budovy Undershaw kvôli právnickým nezrovnalostiam.
Mark Gatiss sa stal patrónom Undershaw v decembri 2010 a jeho podpora má v kampani za záchranu Undershaw veľký význam.

Keď šialenec začne páchať hrozné vraždy inšpirované dielom Edgara Allana Poea, spojí mladý detektív z Baltimoru svoje sily s Poeom, aby vrahovi zabránili zrealizovať Poeove poviedky.
A Vendy Dezortová mi napísala do Knihy návštev minirezenziu: Film Havran mě nadchnul. Je to bezvadná detektivka, ve které sám Poe pomáhá najít vraha, který likviduje lidi podle jeho povídek. Začátek by se mohl trochu zkrátit, ale pak to má napétí, prostě grády. Je to dobový film, režisér James McTeigue točil hodně v Budapešti, kde prý našel nejlépe odpovídajíci prostředí.

I saw my first episode yesterday - 6.5.2012 and I liked it - it seeems to be hopefully. D.I. Frost is very likable, witty, uses unorthodox methods, fights against bureaucracy (that's why they call him droopy-drawers) - despite of it he has results. His momental D.S. is George Toolan (plyed by John Lyons) and his superintendant is Norman Mullet (played by Bruce Alexander).
TV Prima Love started with 10. season from 2003, with episode "Hidden Truth" (may be I missed some earlier seasons...?) and I only hope that they will air it regulary and long :-). /
Moju prvú epizódu som videla včera - 6.5.2012 a páčila sa mi - vyzerá to sľubne. D.I. frost je sympatický, vtipný, používa neortodoxné metódy, bojuje s byrokaciou (preto ho volajú bordelár) - napriek tomu má výsledky. Jeho momentálnym detektívom seržantom je George Toolan (hrá John Lyons) a superintendantom Norman Mullet (hrá Bruce Alexander).
TV Prima Love začala s 10. sériou z 2003, epizódou "Nepohodlná svedkyňa" (možno som zmeškala skoršie...?) a len dúfam že bude vysielať seriál pravidelne a dlho :-). Mimochodom - anglický názov je tak trochu slovná hračka - doslovne "A Touch of Frost" znamená "Dotyk mrazu".

Since April 2012 I watch on AXN series Unforgettable (previously tittle Rememberer) - American crime/mystery series, created by Ed Redlich and John Bellucci, which had premiere on CBS on 20. September 2011 and is aired till present. Carrie Wells (played by Poppy Montgomery) is former police detective in Syracuse, now is she member of New York City Police Department. Her boss is Lt.. Al Burns (played by Dylan Welsh), other main team members - Det. Roe Sanders (Kevin Rankin), Det. Mike Costello (Michael Gaston) and Det. Nina Inara (Daya Vaydia).
Carrie Welss has hyperthymesia - she can visually remember everything. It's fascinating to watch how this skill allows her to recollect every detail of crime scene at any moment later and to solve the case. And this process when her memories come out is very nice displayed on screen. The only thing she has been unable to remember is, which happend the day her sister was murdered. Carrie's move to New York allows her to try to find sister's murderer. /
Od apríla 2012 sledujem na AXN seriál Spomienky (mimochodom pre mňa nepochopiteľný preklad - "Unforgettable" znamená nezabudnuteľný, "Rememberer" - ťažko preložiť - asi "Ten, čo si pamätá") - americký kriminálny seriál, vytvorili ho Ed Redlich a John Bellucci, premiéru mal na CBS 20. septembra 2011 a vysiela sa dodnes. Carrie Wells (hrá ju Poppy Montgomery) je bývalou policajtkou zo Syrakúz, teraz je členkou policajného oddelenia v New Yorku. Jej šéfom je poručík Al Burns (hrá Dylan Welsh), ďalší hlavní členovia teamu - detektív Roe Sanders (hrá Kevin Rankin), detektív Mike Costello (hrá Michael Gaston) a detektív Nina Inara (hrá Daya Vaydia).
Carrie Wells má hyperthymesiu - je schopná všetko si zapamätať. Je fascinujúce sledovať, ako jej táto schopnosť umožňuje vybaviť si každý detail miesta činu hocikedy neskôr a vyriešiť tak prípad. A proces jej rozpomínania je veľmi pekne zobrazený. Jedinú vec nebola schopná si zapamätať - čo sa stalo v deň, keď zavraždili jej sestru. To, že Carrie prišla do New Yorku, jej umožňuje, okrem iného, aj pátrať po sestrinom vrahovi.

I discovered Gladys Mitchell only by accident – since I’ve bought BBC Sherlock on Amazon they recommend me from time to time similar genre – and one of their offers was Mrs. Bradley’s Mysteries. As the actors Diana Rigg and Neil Dudgeon (remember? new DCI John Barnaby in Midsomer Murders 14) are for me sufficient recommendation I started to recherche. It’s a pitty – no book of Gladys Mitchell was ever published by us, but since I’ve seen some shows of series on YouTube, I’m actually in great teptation to buy DVD :-). Virago republished The Rising of the Moon and I only can hope someone published some books of her here... /
Objavila som Gladys Mitchell náhodou – odkedy som kúpila BBC Sherlocka na Amazon, občas mi posielajú doporučenie na podobný žáner – a jednou z ponúk bol aj seriál Záhady pani Bradleyovej. Keďže herci Diana Rigg a Neil Dudgeon (pamätáte? nový detektív šéfinšpektor John Barnaby v Midsomerských vraždách 14) sú pre mňa dostatočným doporučením, začala som pátrať. Škoda, ale u nás nevyšla žiadna kniha od Gladys Mitchell. Ale odkedy som videla pár ukážok zo seriálu na YouTube, som vo vážnom pokušení kúpiť DVD :-).
Virago znovu vydalo jej knihu The Rising of the Moon a ja môžem len dúfať, že aj tu niekedy nejaká vyjde...

Gladys Mitchell, born in Cowley, Oxford on 19 April 1901, was an English author best known for her creation of Mrs. Bradley, the heroine of numerous detective novels. Feted during her life (called "the Great Gladys" by Philip Larkin), her work was largely neglected for the two decades after her death.
She attended Goldsmiths College and University College, London and upon her graduation Mitchell became a teacher of history, English and games at diverse schools.
She was one of the "Big Three" female mystery novelists, judged the equal of Dorothy L Sayers and Agatha Christie, but that's not quite accurate – she's more like a mad combination of both. Philip Larkin loved her and many admired her mordant and morbid mysteries.
Ultimately, Christie remained safer and more controlled, while the complexity of Mitchell's uber-eccentric mysteries got the better of her. She tested the constraints of the murder genre by pushing them to breaking point, and by surprising too much she often disappointed – therein lies the clue to her canonical absence. But a flawed gem can still sparkle... /

Gladys Mitchell, narodená v Cowley, Oxford, 19. apríla 1901, bola anglickou spisovateľkou, najviac známou svojou pani Bradleyovou, hrdinkou mnohých detektívnych románov. Oslavovaná za svojho života (Phillip Larkin ju nazýval “Veľká Gladys”), počas dvoch dekád od jej smrti upadlo jej dielo z veľkej časti do zabudnutia.
Navštevovala Goldsmiths College a University College v Londýne, po ukončení štúdia bolo učiteľkou histórie a angličtiny na rôznych školách.
Bola jednou z “Veľkej Trojky” autoriek, kládli ju za rovno s Dorothy L. Sayers a Agathou Christie, to ale nie je celkom presné – Gladys Mitchell bola skôr bláznivou kombináciou oboch. Philip Larkin ju miloval a mnohí obdivovali jej sarkastické a morbídne záhady.
Koniec-koncov Agatha Christie zostávala “pri zemi” a svoju fantáziu držala pod kontrolou, kým Mitchellovej excentricita z nej dostala to najlepšie. Obmedzujúce pravidlá písania detektívok testovala do krajnosti a snahou o priveľké prekvapenie často sklamala – množstvom falošných stôp alebo ich zásadnou neexistenciou. Ale aj diamant s kazom stále ešte dokáže žiariť...
Mrs. Bradley‘s Mysteries
is a British television drama series, produced in-house by the BBC for broadcast on the BBC One channel, based on the character created by detective writer Gladys Mitchell. It ran in 1998 and 1999, consisting of five episodes in total; a one-off special in the first year followed by a series of four episodes in the second.
The Mrs Bradley Mysteries is, in many ways, an archetypal English television whodunit, with Adela Bradley (Diana Rigg), criminologist and amateur sleuth, solving crimes with the assistance of her chauffeur, George (Neil Dudgeon) . Diana Rigg turn her Mrs Bradley character into a glamorous Miss Marple. The exposure has resulted in new demand for her books, which is good because they're more interesting than Christie's, if more problematic.
I don't know Mitchell's books, but the series is fine - contemporary (20ties last century), has just a rate of nobleness which is likable, Mrs Bradley and her chauffeur George are very charming "couple". And very nice costumes, ambient, camera, witty dialogs and suprising unravelments - who could want more? /

je britský seriál, ktorý produkovala a vysielala BBC TV na kanále BBC One. Seriál je inšpirovaný postavami, ktoré vytvorila spisovateľka detektívok Gladys Mitchell. 5 epizód, z toho jedna pilotná sa vysielali v r. 1998 – 1999.
Seriál je v mnohom typickou anglickou “whodunit” detektívkou, s Adelou Bradley (Diana Rigg), kriminologičkou a amatérskym očkom, ktorá rieši prípady za asistencie svojho šoféra Georgea (Neil Dudgeon). Diana Rigg urobila z pani Bradleyovej aristokratickú slečnu Marplovú. Dramatizácia vyvolala novú požiadavku po knihách, čo je dobre, pretože sú zaujímavejšie ako knihy Christie, hoci kontroverznejšie.
Nepoznám Mitchellovej knihy, ale seriál je fajn - dobový (20-te roky minulého storočia), má presne tú príjemnú mieru noblesy, pani Bradleyová a jej šofér tvoria veľmi šarmantnú "dvojicu". A veľmi pekné kostýmy, prostredie, kamera, vtipné dialógy a prekvapivé rozuzlenia - kto by chcel viac?

Pamätáte sa na Russella Toveya - hral Henry Knighta v epizóde BBC Sherlocka "Psi Baskervillskí". V pilotnej epizóde "Rýchla smrť" hral čeľadníka vo vidieckom dome Bingsovcov, kde sa stanú vraždy. Mal vtedy iba 16 rokov.

Profil zločinu je seriál francúzskej TF1 vysielaný od r. 2009 dodnes. Začala som ho pozerať asi pred mesiacom na AXN.

Main character Chloé Saint-Laurent is young excellent psychologist who works in team of crime investigators. She can immediately empathize the mind of murderer and also of victim, so as she helps police to solve most complicated cases. Chloé is rather eccentric (you can see it on her clothing too), her colleagues sometimes have problem to get along with her, she is a bit calamity hoyler, is inclined to small accidents, but she is also very subtle and after family tragedy very lonesome. That’s the reason why she becomes immediately emotionally tied to her unexpectedly discovered stepsister. I just watch eposides in that is slowly clear, that – regrettably - her sister doesn’t mean it with Chloé so nice as it looks like.
Globally it is very good series, with good cast, interesting characters, ingenious plots, good gradation. Art side – scenery, camera – is on high level too. It’s worth watching it. /
Hlavná postava Chloé Saint-Laurent je vynikajúca mladá psychologička, ktorá pracuje v teame vyšetrovateľov zločinov. Dokáže sa okamžite vcítiť do mysle vraha aj obete a pomáha tak polícii vyriešiť tie najzložitejšie prípady. Chloé je dosť výstredná (prejavuje sa to jasne aj na jej obliekaní), kolegovia majú problém nájsť si k nej cestu, je trošku zmätkár, so sklonom k drobným nehodám. Je ale aj veľmi citlivá a po tragédii v rodine veľmi osamelá. Preto sa okamžite priveľmi citovo naviaže na nečakane objavenú nevlastnú sestru. Práve pozerám epizódy, kde začína byť jasné, že sestra to - žiaľ - nemyslí s Chloé tak úprimne, ako sa tvári.
Celkovo je to veľmi dobrý seriál s dobrými hercami, zaujímavými postavami, s nápaditými zápletkami, rýchlym spádom. Aj po výtvarnej stránke – výprava, kamera – tiež na veľmi dobrej úrovni. Oplatí sa pozerať.

Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian television series, with Yannick Bisson as William Murdoch, a police detective in the 1890s. The television series is based on the series of novels by Maureen Jennings. Series is aired since 2008, sixth season premiered on 7. January 2013.
The series takes place in Toronto in the 1890s and follows Detective William Murdoch (Yannick Bisson) of the Toronto Constabulary, who solves many of his cases using methods of detection that were unusual at the time. These methods include fingerprinting, blood testing, surveillance, and trace evidence. Murdoch is deeply faithful Roman Catholic, uncompromisingly honest, very clever and well informed man. He is assisted by the three other main characters:
Inspector Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdoch's immediate superior, is a blunt and sceptical man with a fondness for whiskey, and prefers conventional methods of detection over Murdoch's eccentric methods, though he is typically pleased and proud when Murdoch is successful despite the odds.
Doctor Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy), is a great supporter of Murdoch's methods. Her skill in pathology usually helps by revealing a great deal of useful evidence to aid Murdoch in solving cases. Throughout the series Murdoch's growing infatuation with her, and his inability to express his feelings, provide a light subplot.
Inexperienced but eager Constable George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), who aspires to be a mystery-novel writer. Crabtree is often unable to grasp the more advanced methods, but his enthusiasm and loyalty make him a good assistant.
Real history is an important element in most episodes, and the plots, though fictitious, sometimes involve real people, such as Buffalo Bill Cody, H. G. Wells, Nikola Tesla, Jack London, Arthur Conan Doyle, Queen Victoria and many others.
The more episodes I’ve seen (on Czech ČT1), so the more I like it, it’s always surprising what modern methods of investigation they used at the time, how operatively Murdoch came to know about them and couragous enough to use them. And those real people give the series stamp of verity. And clever plots, clever and witty dialogs, good camera, music too... I only hope, that ČT will buy also series 6, which had premiere in January 2013... /

Seriál sa odohráva v Toronte na konci 19. storočia a sleduje osudy detektíva Williama Murdocha (Yannick Bisson) na jednej torontskej policajnej strážnici. Murdoch pri riešení prípadov používa vyšetrovcie metódy na tú dobu veľmi neobvyklé – snímanie odtlačkov prstov, testovanie krvi, sledovanie podozrivých a hľadanie vecných dôkazov na mieste činu. Murdoch je hlboko veriaci rímsky katolík, nekompromisne čestný, vzdelaný a rozhľadený muž. V práci mu asistujú – okrem iných – tri hlavné postavy:
Inšpektor Brackenreid (Thomas Craig), Murdochov bezprostredný nadriadený – neotesaný, skeptický muž so záľubou vo whisky, ktorý preferuje konvenčnejšie vyšetrovacie metódy pred často excentrickými Murdochovými metódami, hoci je patrične hrdý, keď má Murdoch napriek prekážkam úspech.
Doktorka Julia Ogden (Hélène Joy) je pre Murdocha veľkou oporou. Jej znalosti obvykle značne prispejú k odhaleniu väčšiny dôkazov a pomôžu Murdochovi vyriešiť prípad. V priebehu seriálu narastá Murdochova náklonnosť k doktorke Ogdenovej spolu s jeho neschopnosťou svoje city prejaviť. Je to akási vedľajšia zápletka celého príbehu.
Neskúsený, ale horlivý konstábel George Crabtree (Jonny Harris), ktorý túži stať sa spisovateľom detektívok. Crabtree často celkom nechápe moderné metódy vyšetrovania, ale jeho nadšenie a lojálnosť z neho robí výborného asistenta Murdocha.
Dôležitým prvkom seriálu je skutočná história, vo väčšine epizód a zápletiek sa objavujú skutočné historické postavy, ako Buffalo Bill Cody, H. G. Wells, Nikola Tesla, Jack London, Arthur Conan Doyle, kráľovná Victoria a mnohí ďalší.
Čím viac epizód som videla (na ČT1), tým viac sa mi seriál páči. Vždy ma prekvapí, aké moderné metódy už vtedy existovali, ako rýchlo sa Murdoch o nich dozvedá a akú odvahu má, ich použiť. A skutočné postavy dávajú seriálu punc pravdivosti. A dobré zápletky, múdre a vtipné dialógy, dobrá kamera, hudba tiež... Len dúfam, že ČT kúpi aj 6. sériu, ktorá mala premiéru v januári 2013...
